Every single day I meet people who are content with their jobs. It pays the bills, the risk of getting fired is low, and the people are “nice”. It starts gradually, and then they start coming in late, leaving early, not speaking up in meetings. Twenty years goes by and they look back and wonder what happened to their career and why they weren’t part of something special.
The worst thing you can do for your career is to become content. If you don’t get passionate at meetings, you’re not hungry enough. If you’re embarrassed to tell others where you work or what you do, you’re not hungry enough. If you leave the second it hits 5PM, you’re not hungry enough. If you’re not doing something that you’ll be proud of 40 years from now, then you’re definitely not hungry enough.
